How often...

I am regularly asked how often you should have a treatment and unfortunately there isn't a one size fits all. We all have unique bodies, with unique lives and unique available funds. That being said I have looked into how often we should seek body work , massage and energy work to give a further more detailed general answer to this very difficult question.

If we all had the time and endless money how often would we get treatments?

My research has been interesting. Looking at endless articles, blogs and posts from industry experts has been very illuminating.

So lets start with the bare minimum. In healthcare if an illness lasts for more than 3 months then it is classed as chronic. So with that knowledge the very minimum we should be doing, is having body work at least every 3 months. A lot can happen in a 3 month period. Can you imagine what 3 months of stress, tightness, tension, life, work exercise can do to the human body? If we are carrying that much stress around it massively impacts every area of our lives. Our posture will suffer greatly and then our physical body suffers, in turn making our stress worse.

We can break this down even further.

Lets look at energy work first. Most people who get energy work such as Reiki are looking for stress relief and relaxation. That means your lifestyle, workload and family life needs to be considered. If you have a very stressful life then you actually need find a way to make more time for yourself. The higher the stress the more often you should seek treatments such as Reiki. Ideally that would be every 1-2 weeks. But the bare minimum would be monthly at a push. This would help minimise the physical, emotional and psychological impacts of stress.

Now for massage. With massage stress can also be an important factor. Do you carry your stress in your shoulders or maybe your lower back? If you do, these would be areas where your body feels tight, tense and have discomfort. Then we take into consideration your work. Are you sat at a desk all day? Are you lifting and moving things all day like a nurse, carer or even a brickie? This also takes an important role in how often and also the type of treatment. If you are seated most of the day then a regular back, neck and shoulder massage would be amazing. If you have a more physically demanding job then you probably would need a regular full body massage. How often is regular. For anyone experiencing tightness and discomfort then every 2-4 weeks would be ideal. But for the bare minimum then 4-6 weeks.

Now lets look at body work especially KCR. KCR is interesting as it is so different to everything else I have been taught over the years. In many instances people can feel great after just one session but having at least one follow up session around 1-2 weeks later (sometimes 2 follow ups) really does help the body. KCR has a simple aim which is to return the body back to balance by correcting an apparent leg length difference. But life can interrupt the process. Here's an example.

"So you get KCR, go home following the instructions and doing your 3 exercises to keep you in alignment but your constantly lifting and holding your young child. Your body may start to slip back into its old poor posture as a habit. By having KCR again a few weeks later it helps remind the body of the correct anatomical posture."

For me I get KCR at least every 8 weeks as a maintenance treatment. It keeps me feeling good and stops any tightness, tension and misalignment in its path correcting it. So if you are looking at maintenance appointments for KCR then 6-8 weeks would be ideal but it could be pushed a little further if necessary.
