What to wear/ remove for a massage!

Many people put off getting a massage because of the fear of being undressed and uncomfortable. They may be shy or dislike their body, feel the therapist would judge them for not having the perfect body (what ever that is).

As a massage therapist my rule for massage is "UNDRESS TO A LEVEL YOU AR COMFORTABLE WITH". If someone is comfortable being naked then it doesn't bother me. I use blankets/ throws/ towels to keep people covered and only expose the bit I am working on. I don't need to or want to see it all but if that's your comfort then I'm okay with that.

On the other hand if you are uncomfortable removing clothes then lets work out what's best for you. We can find ways to make it easier. I can step out of the room so you can undress and lie under the oversized blanket, calling me back when you are covered up. Always feel free to keep your underwear on. As a rule its not an area I am interested in. If you would be more comfortable wearing a vest top and shorts then do that. There really isn't a right or wrong way to dress / undress for your massage. Yes without question skin contact makes a much better massage as you don't have clothing bunching up and rubbing on your skin but we can work around it. I have had women wanting to wear a vest top for a massage but were ok with me adjusting it so I could do their back massage I would slip the straps down off the shoulders to work the upper back/ shoulder area and fold up the bottom of the vest to work on the lower back.

This isn't something to fear. We all have bits of our bodies we love and bits we don't love as much. No massage therapist should ever judge you on your size or shape. Believe me when I say we really have seen all different shapes and sizes of bodies. We want you to get the best out of your massage experience. If you aren't comfortable with the idea of taking your clothes off (especially in front of a stranger) then reach out and message where you are thinking of going. Ask about their policies on clothing and if they have a work around that would suit you. I would much prefer to talk to you about it before you attend an appointment so I can put you at ease and be set up to suit your specific needs.

Remember I want you to have an enjoyable experience. If I am aware of what would make you more relaxed than I can have it ready for your arrival. No need to have an awkward in person conversation if you don't want to.

I also have a variety of pillows and bolsters to help support your body during a massage. This includes a "comfort bolster" which is for those with a larger chest. I love when clients let me know they have a larger chest so I can have the bolster on the treatment couch for their arrival. No more side boob or feeling like you are being suffocated by your chest as this bolster gives so much support.

I have been in this industry for a long time now. On so many occasions people have laughed when they realised that they really aren't lying on the treatment couch full exposed. The relief on their faces is unbelievable.

Please don't be afraid to reach out. There is always a work around.

And remember my rule is...

"UNDRESS TO A LEVEL YOU AR COMFORTABLE WITH".

Julie
